The UK coal industry 1979 - 1999: Thatcherism and the fall of coal

A review of the UK coal industry during the years 1979 to 1999 period in the regime of Margaret Thatcher is highlighted. The coal industry stated the era as fall of coal due to Thatcherism. The NUM had become a negligible force in industrial politics, and the departure of the electricity industry on UK deep-mines had fallen from 70% to 20%. The Thatcher political agenda represented the broad terms of reference of coal policy to be implemented over time as circumstances allowed. There's a need to look not only the exercise of political will of the Thatcherite era, but also more complex, interactive and unpredicted reasons.
