This paper describes a radar signal processor architecture suitable for implementing monopulse high resolution radar (HRR). A coherent transmitter and receiver radar is used to transmit and process waveforms with long pulse widths and high-bandwidth properties. The received signals are I/Q demodulated, sampled and processed using a digital filter matched to the transmitted waveform. The output of the processor is a high resolution 2-D range-Doppler array. Block processing of coherent pulse trains is carried out to further improve signal-to-noise ratios by integrating the 2-D array in the frequency domain. The end result is detailed information on target range and Doppler profiles, suitable for inverse SAR (ISAR) and providing feature data for automatic target recognition.
