In this article we explore the coming consumer radar era, where tiny singlechip radar systems will be available for just a few dollars. These systems will use sophisticated waveform diversity and adaptive signal processing to optimize performance. Automotive radar concepts developed at the University of Melbourne are discussed, including CMOS RF transceivers, waveform and signal processing, and antennas.
